to restore,repair,develop,and maintain or make grants towards or otherwise assist in or provide for the restoration,repair,development and maintenance of the landscapes and gardens (including outbuildings) of kenwood for the use of the general public insofar as such provision is not made out of public funds or other funds available for that purpose.(2. to promote the understanding and to futher the knowledge of the general public about gardens in the historical context to make grants for such research into gadening in the historical context either generally or specifically but only if there is an undertaking to publish or make available for publication or for scholars and other interested persons the useful results of such research and in particular (but without prejudice to the generality of the foergoing) to restore,repair and develop or assist in the maintrnance of the gardens outbuildings and grounds at kenwood in accordance with the original designs of the same prepared by humphry repton the first earl of mansfield and to promote the knowledge and understanding of the general public about kenwood and its importance in a historical context generally provided always that if the trrusts declared in this clause shall fail then the trustees shall pay or apply the annual income of the trust fund to or for charitable purposes having similar objects to those declared in this trust as the trustees in their absolute discretion think fit.
