to provide an annual prize for the pupil obtaing the best results in english to promote the education of, including social and physical training, of persons under the age of 25 years who attend or have attended any of the following schools:- branksome comprehensive school,eastbourne comprehensive school, haughton school, hummersknott school, hurworth comprehensive school, longfield comprehensive school and queen elizabeth sixth form college. for promoting the education, including social and physical training, of persons who have not attained the age of 25 years and who or whose parents are resident in the city of durham. to further the education (including social and physical training) of children between the ages of 11 and 19 who reside in ushaw moor durham and who attend or have attended the deerness valley comprehensive school. the support or promotion of:(1) any charitable purposes for the relief of poverty, the advancement of education (including training for employment or work), the advancement of religion or any other charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in the area of the county of durham and its immediate neighbourhood.(2) such other exclusively charitable purposes in the united kingdom and elsewhere which are in the opinion of the executive committee of the company of benefit to the community with a preference to the community in the area of the county of durham and its immediate neighbourhood. to promote the education of persons who attend or who are eligible to attend an elementary school situate in the area of benefit the relief of persons in need resident in the area of benefit who are sick, convalescent, disabled or infirm by relieving their suffering or assisting their recovery to relieve persons with cerebral palsy in such ways as the trustees think fit (a)in furtherance of the education and training of (1) any child or young person who is or who at any time has been in the care of or provided with accomodation by or under the supervision of a local authority within the relevant area (2) any child or young person in need within the meaning of section 17(10) of the children act 1989 (b) in payment to any charitable or voluntary organisation whose objects include the education and training of children or young persons for the furtherance of the education and training of those children or young persons mentioned above (c) the trustees may apply the excess of such income arising in furtherance of the education and training of any child or young person resident in the relevant area; or in payment to any charitable or voluntary organisation whose objects include the education and training of children or young persons for the furtherance of the education and training of children or young persons in the relevant area income to be applied in making grants in aid of the funds of hospitals, infirmaries, or convalescent homes in the county of durham.
