Objects:

to advance the education of the public in any moor or one of the following ways:-(1) provision of an open college network, which is also an authorised validating agency (ava) under licence from the department of education and employment, which works on behalf of its membership to approve programmes of learning; (2) promoting and increasing participation in such approved programmes of learning, and generally in education and training, particularly by persons who have benefited least from existing educational provision or who have been disadvantaged by their educational experience; (3) improving the quality and flexibility of education provision and approved programmes of learning, provided by members for the public benefit; (4) advising on and approving the curriculum, content, quality standards and flexibility of courses provided by members to form part of such approved programmes of learning; (5) facilitating the progression of persons who participate in approved programmes of learning by enabling them to achieve the award of open college network credits, which are recognised nationally, and to accumulate and, where appropriate, transfer these credits towards a qualification; (6) developing the accreditation of approved courses, particularly where no such accreditation opportunities have previously been available and by these means to encourage public access to all forms of continuing and further education and training; (7) improving access to higher education by establishing, carrying on and conducting the work of the national open college network (nocn) accreditation system in kent and elsewhere and conducting the the work of of open access in kent as an authorised validating agency under licence from the appropriate agency within the department for education and employment; (8) improving the recognition of educational qualifications by issuing nationally recognised access certificates and credits, for learning achievements by persons completing approved programmes of learning, which are awarded independently of the providers of such courses..
