"(a) to prevent or alleviate cruelty to or suffering of companion animals, as hereinafter defined, and to relieve or assist in alleviating such cruelty or suffering. (b) to educate the public about the welfare, care and treatment of companion animals and their role in society. (c) to conduct studies or to commission studies into the care and treatment of companion animals and to publish the results of any such studies.(the expression ""companion animals"" shall mean any animal which for the time being and from time to time shall be kept by man as a companion, and shall in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing include cats, dogs, birds, rodents and equines of all description whether or not such companion animals shall also be kept by man for the purposes other than as a companion."
