the trustees shall hold the trust fund upon trust to advance the education of persons wishing to pursue a career in engineering, who are resident in the metropolitan borough of solihull or are pupils at a school or college within the borough of solihull by the granting of bursaries or scholarships payable to beneficiaries as a contribution to the cost of study towards a degree in science, engineering, technology or mathematics at a british university.the choice of successful candidates will be in the hands of a selection committee nominated by the trustees made up of up to three members of the rotary club and up to two representatives of other bodies and principle sponsors (if appropriate) initial applications shall be in writing with final selection to be on the basis of an interview. the criteria employed will be a combination of academic and technical ability, personal character and financial need.an award may be made by instalments up to a total of one thousand pounds per academic year for three years, or its academic equivalent, subject to satisfactory progress in a full-time course of study leading to the award of a bachelors degree or a similar academic qualification. the first award will be made to a student going up to university in the millennium year of 2000 and a fresh award may be made to an additional student each year thereafter
