for the advancement of medical knowledge in the field of health care and preventative medicine and in particular as follows: 1. for the purpose of expanding and supporting long term the united kingdom barrett's oesophagus registry which is contributed to by clinicians nationally to enable medical doctors and other scientists to obtain a more complete understanding of this condition; 2. for providing a support and education service to sufferers from barrett's oesophagus and its complications and supporting the advancement of knowledge about barrett's oesophagus generally; 3. for supporting studies within the field of barrett's oesophagus relating principally to influencing the incidence of adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus and gastric cardia and their prevention; 4. making publicly available the results of any scientific and educational activity initiated or supported by the charity and/or the relief of sickness of persons suffering from oesophago-gastric cancer and related diseases and the provision of facilities for the detection and treatment of the said diseases and by payment towards the maintenance and running costs of such facilities.
