Objects:

"income to be applied by way of grants to residents living on any estate owned by the cottage homes who are without sufficient means at any period of any year to provide themselves with reasonable comforts having regard to their respective ages and health. if income cannot be so applied such income shall be applied in or towards furthering the purposes of the charity known as the cottage homes. 3.1 the charity shall operate for the public benefit in pursuance of the following charitable objects: 3.1.1 to support individuals who are or have been in employment within the retail and associated sectors in need because of youth, age, ill-health, financial hardship or other disadvantage, in particular by: 3.1.1.1 the provision of wellbeing services, for example counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and critical incident support; 3.1.1.2 the provision of advice and assistance, particularly to individuals who would otherwise be unable to obtain such advice; 3.1.1.3 the provision of specially designed or adapted housing and items, services and facilities calculated to relieve the needs of beneficiaries; and 3.1.1.4 the provision of grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve financial hardship or distress; 3.1.2 to advance awareness and understanding, social inclusion and mobility of individuals, in the retail and associated sectors by providing financial assistance through educational grants and bursaries, advice and assistance and organising educational programmes and other activities to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to gain employment in the retail sector; and 3.1.3 to further such other purposes which may be charitable according to the law of england and wales and the law of scotland in connection with the retail and associated sectors in the united kingdom as the directors see fit from time to time by the provision of financial and other support. the object of the charity shall be to relieve either generally or individually persons who have been employed in retail trade for periods of 20 years or more who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. the assistance of beneficiaries as defined in the sub-rule (3) below. in particular (but without in any way limiting the generality of the foregoing) the cottage homes may assist beneficiaries in any or all of the following ways: (a) by the establishment and maintenance of homes, sheltered accommodation, residential homes, and hospitals for aged or sick beneficiaries and by provision for their care and maintenance therein; (b) to provide financial assistance to beneficiaries when in need; (c) by paying subscriptions and making donations to hospitals, homes or institutions for the assistance of aged or sick beneficiaries.in these rules the expression ""beneficiaries"" means persons who are in need of assistance and who were or are employed in the drapery clothing or shoe retailing businesses [for further details see constitution] the objects for which the trust is hereby constituted shall be the relief of poverty among those beneficiaries who are in need hardship or distress including (inter alia)(a) the provision of financial assistance for beneficiaries in need(b) the provision of facilities or other help to assist beneficiaries to find employment(c) the provision of accommodation (including nursing homes) for aged sick and needy beneficiaries and the provision of financial assistance for medical care or supplies."
