to make loans or grants not exceeding $1,000 each to persons not less tham 18 requiring financial assistance to enable them to enter a chosen profession, trade or calling, with a preference for freemen of the mercers' company. the relief and assistance of such persons as the trustees shall in their absolute discretion select who have been pupils or masters at mercers' school or are the wives widows children and other dependants of such persons, and who are in necessitous circumstances and in need of charitable relief. (1) the company shall apply the clear yearly income and at its discretion the whole or part of the property of the charity in furtherance of any charitable purposes (including but not limited to the advancement of education and the relief of need) as the wardens of the company (the wardens) in their absolute discretion think fit, provided that the names of the former mercers' school and of the charity are associated with any such grant. (2) in exercising their discretion as aforesaid the wardens shall have regard to any representations made to them by or on behalf of the executive committee of the club for as long as the club remains in existence
