i) to acquire and take over the railway lines in the counties of greater manchester and lancashire together with such lands and buildings adjacent thereto as are of natural beauty or historic interest or are of important in the operation of the said railway.ii) to undertake and/or promote the permanent preservation for the benefit of the public generally of the said railway lines, together, with all fixtures and fittings, historic buildings and lands of natural beauty upon or adjacent to the said railway, and generally to preserve the character and amenities of the said railway lines.iii) to undertake and/or promote the permanent preservation and restoration of all forms of locomotives, and rolling stock, together with general railway ephemera (including road vehicles and items of general transport interest and of actual or potential historic or scientific importance for the benefit of the public at large.iv) to operate a passenger service upon the said railway lines for the purpose ofa) affording to the public access to and enjoyment of the countryside between the said towns of bury and rawtenstall.b) enabling the public to observe the said railway lines, its fixtures and fittings, and lands of natural beauty and historic buildings adjacent to the said railway.v) to advance the education of the public by securing of the preservation, restoration, enhancement and maintenance of features and objects of industrial, scientific and historical interest in the counties of greater manchester and lancashire and surrounding area.
