a to promote voluntary and community organisations in somerset for the benefit of the public in particular by:1 to provide means of appointing voluntary and community sector representatives on county and regional structures and bodies as appropriate.2 to provide a voice for voluntary and community organisations in somerset, reflecting the diversity in communities.3 to provide a point of contact for information on voluntary and community activities locally, regionally and nationally including raising funds.4 to provide and develop mechanisms through which voluntary and community groups can influence and participate in the development and implementation and strategy and policy at county level and through these mechanisms contribute at regional, national and european levels.5 to provide and support the establishment, development and sustainability of local development agencies and other support and networking structures for voluntary and community groups in somerset where these are lacking or under-resourced.6 to facilitate and promote capacity building, sustainability, contact, information sharing and joint action amongst voluntary and community groups in somerset.7 to promote the role and activities of the voluntary and community sector in somerset and promote positive relationships with government and other relevant bodies and structures, including those in the private and statutory sectors.8 to promote actions and policies which recognise the importance of, and actively involve groups engaged in:a tackling the needs of people who are socially and economically disadvantaged;b promoting social inclusionpromoting development and activities which are sustainable, conserving and enhancing the natural environment; and regeneration based on the active involvement of local communities in somerset.b voluntary and community organisations are independent organisations established for purposes that add value to the community as a whole, or a significant section of the community, and which are not permitted by their constitution to make a profit for private distribution. voluntary organisations do not include local government or other statutory authorities.
