(1) to promote the military efficiency of the armed forces and to foster good citizenship for the benefit of the public at large, in particular by providing and maintaining a memorial or memorials to those service personnel who took part in the operation to capture vital bridges in normandy, france, as a prelude to d-day in june 1944 and thereby encouraging and maintaining public recognition of the sacrifice made by such persons. (2) to educate the public in the history of the operation to capture vital bridges in normandy, france, as a prelude to d-day in june 1944. (3) to provide relief for serving and former serving personnel and their dependents who may be in condition of need, hardship or distress in such manner as the trustees think fit.
