a. the objects of the play team association are: i) the advancement of education, for the benefit of the public, by(1) the provision of developmental sessions and events for children and young peopleusing the principles of self-directed play and expressive arts;(2) the training of practitioners in self-directed play facilitation skills;(3) promoting the development and wider understanding of self-directed play andexpressive arts for children and young people, and their incorporation in neweducational and professional training contexts;ii) to help young people advance in life through(1) formal, recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare,designed to improve their conditions of life, through application of the principles ofself-directed play;(2) the provision of support and activities which develop skills, capacities and capabilities,so as to enable them better to participate in society as mature and responsibleindividuals.b. definition: self-directed play is a non-interpretative and non-judgmental approach to play,typically provided for a child as an individual hourly session each week. the play practitionermakes clear to the child that she will take care of physical and emotional safety, and manageunacceptable behaviours. in the session, the child has the opportunity to explore hopes, fearsand difficulties through observed play. the practitioner speaks only to summarise or mirrorwhat the child is saying or doing. in this way, the child is aware that he has been heard andvalued. by being thus acknowledged, he is helped to manage better in his physical andemotional milieu.
