"3.1 to promote for the benefit of the public equality and in particular the elimination ofdiscrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender, gender identity, race,religion or belief, and sexual orientation or any combination thereof by:3.1.1 advancing education and research on equality and diversity and publishing theuseful results of the same to the public;3.1.2 cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity;3.1.3 encouraging good practice in relation to equality and diversity ingovernmental, public and private sector organisations; and3.1.4 promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diversebackgrounds.3.2 to promote for the benefit of the public human rights (as set out in the universaldeclaration of human rights (""udhr"") and subsequent united nations conventionsand declarations and in regional codes of human rights which incorporate the rightscontained in the udhr and those subsequent conventions and declarations) by all orany of the following means:3.2.1 research into human rights issues and publication of the useful resultsthereof;3.2.2 educating the public about human rights;3.2.3 providing technical advice to government and others on human rightsmatters;3.2.4 contributing to the sound administration of human rights law;3.2.5 commenting on proposed human rights legislation;3.2.6 raising awareness of human rights issues;3.2.7 promoting public support for human rights;3.2.8 promoting respect for human rights among individuals, the public sector andbusinesses;3.2.9 advocacy of human rights; and3.2.10 eliminating infringements of human rights.3.3 to promote for the benefit of the public the efficiency and effectiveness of voluntarysector providers (as defined in article 3.4) working in the areas of age, disability,gender, gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and human rights(as defined in article 3.2) or any combination thereof by:3.3.1 promoting good practice within voluntary sector providers;3.3.2 providing training, conferences and seminars on relevant subjects;3.3.3 identifying needs in voluntary sector providers and establishing projects orpolicies to address them;3.3.4 providing information to the press and the public on the operation of, orproblems encountered by, voluntary sector providers;3.3.5 acting as a representative of the voluntary sector providers in relation togovernment policies, legislation and regulation.3.4 voluntary sector providers means charities and voluntary organisations as follows:3.4.1 charities are organisations, which are established for exclusively charitablepurposes in accordance with the law of england and wales,3.4.2 voluntary organisations are independent organisations, which are establishedfor purposes that add value to the community as a whole, or a significantsection of the community, and which are not permitted by their constitution tomake a profit for private distribution. voluntary organisations do not includelocal government or other statutory authorities."
