the promotion of the voluntary sector in lewisham for the benefit of the public in general and of black and other minority ethnic groups in particular, by any means deemed appropriate by the trustees from time to time, including by:a) creating a bme strategic forum that engages with local, national, governmental agencies on policies and strategies;b) promoting the elimination of discrimination by acting as a representative of bme groups especially in regards to government policies and legislation;c) promoting community capacity building by identifying needs within the bme organisations and establishing projects and/ or policies to address them;d) promoting volunteering among bme individuals as an avenue to utilising skills, knowledge and expertise for the benefit of lewisham’s community in a voluntary capacity;e) providing a forum for discussing issues pertaining to bme organisationsf) promoting good relations between persons of different racial groups by bringing together persons who make up the community of lewisham and beyond to exchange ideas; learn from each other and generally interact with one another;g) increasing awareness of the contribution the bme communities make to the living and working life in lewisham;h) producing and distributing regular periodic newsletters and other information materials to bme organisations, local authorities, service agencies and others;i) being a representative voice of bme community groups and individuals to statutory bodies and other agencies in lewisham;j) supporting and empowering bme organisations to provide quality services to the community;k) organising cultural events that showcase the cultural diversity of lewisham’s residents;l) organising events and activities that promote awareness of health and well being among the different racial groups living and working in lewisham.for the purposes of this clause the 'the voluntary sector' means:- charities are organisations which are established for exclusively charitable purposes in accordance with the law of england and wales.- voluntary organisations are independent organisations, which are established for purposes that add value to the community as a whole, or a significant section of the community, and which are not permitted by their constitution to make a profit for private distribution. voluntary organisations do not include local government or other statutory authorities.
