2.1 the objects of the company are the relief of deaf persons, in particular (but without limitation) those who are resident in the united kingdom, in all or any of the following ways: 2.1.1 the promotion of equality and diversity by facilitating participation in sport; 2.1.2 the encouragement of participation in sport as a means of relieving and/or overcoming their disabilities; 2.1.3 to facilitate deaf sportspersons’ development in preparation for national and international competitions; and 2.1.4 to constitute a standing forum where all representative bodies of deaf sport may be represented and may collectively or through special groups where appropriate formulate and promote measures to improve and develop deaf sport. in this article 2 and article 3 below the following terms have the corresponding meanings: “deaf” means deaf, hard of hearing or anyone who considers themselves to have a hearing impairment; and “sport” means all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels.
