to further by such means as are charitable the diffusion of knowledge among young people including the promotion and encouragement of the arts personal contact and social intercourse and all other arts of public private professional and business life. the trustees shall hold the trust fund and its income upon trust to apply them for any purpose, which is charitable according to the law of england and wales whether for the benefit of any individual or group of people or for the benefit of any other organisation established for charitable purposes and in particular:a) to promote without any distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local authorities, voluntary organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social, environmental and physical welfare to improve lives of people in local and international communities.b) to prevent avoidable blindness, assist disabled people to become more independent, help people to prevent or manage health issues and support youth in positive development. the programme areas are: volunteering, preserving sight, combating disability, promoting health, serving youth, humanitarian aid and disaster relief. the objects of the cio are such purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the laws of england and wales as the trustees shall in their absolute discretion determine, including (but not limited to):1.1 promoting without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local authorities and voluntary organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare;1.2 the relief of sickness or disability and preservation of good health including the prevention of avoidable blindness;1.3 to help young people, especially but not exclusively through leisure time activities, so as to develop their capabilities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society;1.4 promoting for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment;1.5 the relief and assistance of people in any part of the world who are victims of war or natural disaster, trouble or catastrophe.nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the cio for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the charities and trustee investment (scotland) act 2005 and section 2 of the charities act (northern ireland) 2008.
