to provide and support facilities for cancer research, by providing funding and support for externally reviewed, high quality cancer research within wales for the benefit of patients in wales and beyond by:(1) funding cancer research proposals prepared by scientific investigators associated with research units sited within wales and linked to:(i) universities, nhs and other academic and research institutions(ii) radiotherapy and chemotherapy (clinical oncology) services based with the velindre nhs trust (or any successor thereafter)(iii) oncology research facilities(2) establishing and maintaining a research laboratory and library/information service with computer and internet facilities for the medical and scientific members of the oncology units and other organisations and charities involved in advancement of the knowledge of cancer and its treatment(3) establishing and maintaining close links with other scientific and medical departments within universities and other research organisations involved in cancer research or closely related subjects, the outcome of which will potentially lead to achieving the knowledge of cancer and possible lead to new diagnostic and treatment techniques for cancer. the objects of the cio are, for the benefit of the public, to relieve sickness and promote good health by advancing knowledge and understanding of cancer and its possible treatment and prevention techniques, providing and supporting facilities for high quality cancer research in wales and in particular by:(a) funding cancer research proposals submitted by scientific investigators associated with other organisations in wales, including those linked to: (i) the national health service; (ii) universities and other academic and/or research institutions; and (iii) providers of cancer treatment.
