the object of the cio is:for the public benefit, to undertake research into human rights violations around the world, to promote respect for peopleæs rights, to contribute to the sound administration of asylum law, to provide technical advice and training to governments and others on human rights matters, and to raise awareness of human rights issues (as set out in the universal declaration of human rights, the united nations convention relating to the status of refugees and subsequent united nations, european union, african union and inter-american conventions, and related domestic legislative instruments). asylum research consultancy foundationæs research will particularly help to improve standards in refugee status determination processes, the realisation of asylum seekersæ and refugeesæ rights and entitlements and ensure that those in need of protection are recognised as such.in furtherance of the above the charity's activities will include:ò undertaking research into human rights issues in particular, but not limited to:o country of origin information (coi) research which may include the legal, social, political, humanitarian situations and human rights abuses that force people to flee their country of origin and to seek international protectiono how coi is used in the refugee status determination process (rsd)o improving the quality of the rsd process and the realisation of asylum seekersæ rights and entitlements o obtaining redress for victims of human rights abuseandò raising awareness of human rights issues in particular through, but not limited to:o the dissemination of coi and rsd related publications to asylum seekers, legal representatives, refugee decision makers, state bodies and the judiciary, eu agencies, un agencies, non-governmental organisations, refugee community organisations, academic institutions, the media etc. o promoting the adherence to internationally recognised research standards and methodologies, including use of accurate, current, reliable, relevant, transparent and traceable coi by rsd practitioners and coi service providers o providing country-specific, thematic and customised coi training in furtherance of that object but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power to engage in political activity provided that the trustees are satisfied that the proposed activities will further the purposes of the charity to an extent justified by the resources committed and the activity is not the dominant means by which the charity carries out its objects. nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the cio for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the charities and trustee investment (scotland) act 2005 and section 2 of the charities act (northern ireland) 2008.
