the object of the cio is:1. to preserve and protect the health of people from socially or economically deprived communities in greater manchester and the surrounding areas by promoting access to and awareness of social prescribing services.2. to advance the education of medical practitioners and clinicians working in socially or economically deprived communities in social prescribing services and other similar interventions in particular but not exclusively by providing and assisting in the provision of training, workshops and conferences.for the purposes of this clause, ‘social prescribing’ refers to the use of non-medical interventions to achieve sustained healthy behaviour change and improved self-care. social prescribing supplements the support a patient receives from their healthcare professional. a doctor or healthcare professional can prescribe an intervention, as they would medicine. typically, the interventions include physical activity, healthy eating and cooking, social interaction and support with positive relationships.
