"3.1 the objects of the cio (the ""objects"") are the relief of poverty, hardship or distress in the area of benefit by the provision and maintenance of almshouse accommodation and such charitable purposes for the residents of the almshouses of the cio as the trustees shall in their absolute discretion think fit.3.2 residents shall be single persons who:3.2.1 have been resident in the area of benefit for at least seven years prior to the time of their appointment, and3.2.2 are in sufficient need, hardship or distress requiring urgent support with a preference being given to persons over the age of 55 who are residents within the area of benefit and who are also members of the church of england, which shall be interpreted to include those churches making up the ""churches together in england"" being the ecumenical organisation of which the methodist church, the church of england, the roman catholic church and such other churches which are also in membership with churches together in england. 3.3 in this constitution the expression ""area of benefit"" shall mean the civil parish and town of newport pagnell which was formerly known as newport pagnell urban district."
