the assistance to the distressed members of the theatrical profession and their wives, children, orphans and dependants. the benefit of the poor actors and actresses or poor persons who have followed the profession or calling of actor or actress as a means of livelihood and who are in need of pecuniary assistance. to give relief or assistance in such form as the society shall determine, by granting allowances, gifts, loans, pensions and annuities to and by receiving, maintaining and supporting in any home or institution belonging to or managed by the society, distressed members of the theatrical profession and their wives, children, widows, orphans and dependants, provided that they are not members of the council and by making grants or loans to or otherwise assisting any home or institution devoted solely to the welfare of such persons. for the benefit of poor people, who have been engaged in the dramatic profession for not less than five years and cannot maintain themselves because of age and ill health or the widows of such persons.
