"in or towards the provision of such additional financial assistance to such persons who whilst not resident in any accomodation maintained or provided by the cottage homes are for the time being in receipt of financial assistance granted to them under the rules of the cottage homes. any part of the income not so applied shall be paid or applied in the augmentation of the general funds of the cottage homes. income to be applied by way of grants to residents living on any estate owned by the cottage homes who are without sufficient means at any period of any year to provide themselves with reasonable comforts having regard to their respective ages and health. if income cannot be so applied such income shall be applied in or towards furthering the purposes of the charity known as the cottage homes. 1) in or towards the provision of grants for the purchase of furniture, furnishings, household appliances, warm clothing and other comforts for such of the residents for the time being in the homes maintained by the cottage homes who are without sufficient means to provide themselves with such comforts as are necessary to maintain them in a reasonable state of health and comfort. 2) in augmentation of the general fund of the cottage homes. homes for female members or widows of members over 55 years of age and all male members over 60 years of age upkeep and maintenance of the cottage homes. coal for the residents of the cottage homes in or towards the relief of widows and orphans of members and others who are in necessitous circumstances. the granting of temporary pecuniary assistance to any men, women or children who are or have been connected with the wholesale or retail drapery and textile trade and are in genuine distress. the assistance of beneficiaries as defined in the sub-rule (3) below. in particular (but without in any way limiting the generality of the foregoing) the cottage homes may assist beneficiaries in any or all of the following ways: (a) by the establishment and maintenance of homes, sheltered accommodation, residential homes, and hospitals for aged or sick beneficiaries and by provision for their care and maintenance therein (b) to provide financial assistance to beneficiaries when in need (c) by paying subscriptions and making donations to hospitals, homes or institutions for the assistance of aged or sick beneficiariesin these rules the expression ""beneficiaries"" means persons who are in need of assistance and who were or are employed in the drapery clothing or shoe retailing businesses [for further details see constitution]"
