for the benefit of persons in need of assistance who served in the 1914-18 or 1939-45 wars in the armed forces and who have been or are patients of queen mary's roehampton hospital for sailors, soldiers and airmen who lost their limbs in the war. if the trustees cannot apply the income as above then they may apply it for the benefit of necessitous widows or dependants of persons qualified to be beneficiaries. the object of the charity shall be to relieve the following persons who are in need of assistance: (1) persons who served at any time in the armed forces of the crown and who were disabled in such service and the widows and other dependants of such persons; and (2) persons who served in the mercantile marine or in any service established under the civil defence acts 1937 and 1939 and who were disabled in such service and the widows and other dependants of such persons.
