an annual prize for orchestral composition to be awarded to students and ex-students of the royal college of music and the royal academy of music. the establishment and maintenance of a scholarship for musical education. to make grants for or towards the musical education in any manner approved by the trustees in consultation with the society of singers who are british nationals or citizens of the republic of ireland and who are ordinarily resident in the united kingdom or eire or being students from the british commomwelath are temporarily resident in the united kingdom or eire for their musical education and who satisfy such other conditions including age as the trustees may prescribe. the provisions of an annual prize for violin playing. awarding a prize in any year or at such other intervals as the trustee may decide to any present or past registered student or any conservatoire or university within the united kingdom who is of such an age or experience as it thinks fit and who composes and submits the best portfolio of three works for contrasting forces to encourage an appreciation by the public of the art of music, in particular to do so through the promotion of the role of music in society and through activities which fall within the concepts of promoting an understanding of music, encouraging creativity in music and giving recognition to excellence in music and musicians the furtherance of the art of music for the benefit of the public and the education of the public in the united kingdom and elsewhere in particular by: (a) awarding scholarship bursaries grants and prizes to young conductors and other young musicians; and (b) assisting orchestras (including in particular the halle orchestra ) academies of music and other charitable foundations concerned with the practice study or knowledge of the art of music (but so that nothing in this sub-paragraph shall authorise any application of the fund or its income for private gain).
