almshouses for poor persons of the borough of stratford upon avon. relieving either generally or individually persons resident in the town of stratford upon avon who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. (amalgamated charities comprise of - john combe, thomas combe, richard smith for bread, thomas durant, hubert gibbs, annie justins and george pardoe) for the benefit of all or any of the almspeople of the charity known as the almshouses as the trustees think fit from time to time. (amalgamated charities comprise of - sir hugh clopton, sir arthur hodgson, richard lord and wife emota, thomas lucas, john godfrey morris, mrs emily ann mcnamara and ernest george roper) 1. one fifth of the income to the governors of the foundation called the grammar school of king edward vi at stratford on avon for application in accordance with the trusts from time to time relating thereto. 2.residue in augmenting the income of the relief in need charity. almshouses for poor widows and spinsters. (file 517906 closed - duplicate registration.) see individual constituents 1. maintenance and repair of almshouses for almspeople who shall be necessitous widows and spinsters of the christian faith who have resided for not less than three years next preceding the time of appointment in one of the boroughs of royal leamington spa and stratford-upon-avon, in the county of warwick, or in the urban district of leek, in the county of stafford, 2.income to be applied for the benefit of the almspeople, (for further details see above scheme). the provision and maintenance of almshouses for poor widows or spinsters the almspeople shall be poor persons who are aged not less than 60 years and who (except in special cases to be approved by the commissioners) are ordinarily resident in the district of stratford upon avon at the time of appointment the provision of almshouses for needy, aged or infirm persons who shall be selected in the following order of priority: 1) persons who are enrolled on the membership roll of the united reformed church, stratford upon avon. 2) persons who are not enrolled on the said membership roll but who have been regular attendants at the services of the said church for at least a year. 3) persons who are enrolled on the membership roll of and are attending a church which is a member of the stratford upon avon council of churches.
