the relief of financial need or other distress amongst members and former members of the society and their widows, widowers, dependants or orphans, and amongst pharmacy students towards the relief of distressed persons who are the orphan children of deceased persons who were at any time members and not otherwise. applicable towards the establishment and maintenance of convalescent homes for the relief of distressed persons being:- (1) members (2) persons who at any time have been members or have been registered as pharmaceutical chemists or chemists and druggists, or (3) widows orphans or other dependants of deceased persons who were at any time members or registered as aforesaid. to assist members or former members of the society, pharmacists, their dependants or registered students of the society who by reason of the war need financial help this fund was raised by subscription in 1953 to assist pharmacists suffering distress as a result of the east coast floods on condition that any excess should be used for such charitable purposes as the council of the society consider suitable and where the society's other charitable funds cannot be used. a further appeal was made in 1956 for the benefit of refugees from hungary and egypt and another in 1960 in connection with floods in the west country and wales the advancement of chemistry and pharmacy and the promotion of the education of such of those who shall practise the same. for further details see the will. to assist or purchase the election of orphans to orphan schools of subscribers to the benevolent fund of the pharmaceutical society. if and so far as the yearly income is not required for the above the same may be applied in relieving needy orphans of members and associates of the society. income to be applied to the assistance of poor persons - a member of the society who has carried on business in the city of nottingham or failing him, any chemist and druggist at the discretion of the council. for the benefit of the eldest two annuitants for the time being in every year of the benevolent fund of the pharmaceutical society of great britain. examination prize for a pupil between the ages of 19 and 21 who attends any school of pharmacy and who has served as an apprentice or pulil to a pharmaceutical chemist in the counties of lancaster, chester, or in the high peak division of derby. the pooling and consolidation of investments of charitable funds administered by the pharmaceutical society of great britain. the relief of financial need or other distress amongst members and former members of the society and any individual who is or has ever been on the register of pharmacists maintained by the society or the general pharmaceutical council and their widows, widowers, dependants or orphans, and amongst pharmacy students in great britain.
