Objects:

(a) the promotion of education (including social and physical training) of persons who are in need of financial assistance and who are either resident in the area of benefit or have at any time attended either of the charity schools or the lady elizabeth hastings’ church of england school at collingham by the provision of financial assistance in the form of grants or loans at interest or interest free, to any charitable trust, association or institution which is established primarily for the promotion of education (including social and physical training) within the area of benefit or in such other ways as the trustee thinks fit and provided that persons who have received assistance under this clause by virtue of their residence, but have moved to reside outside the area of benefit, may continue to receive assistance at the discretion of the trustee;(b) to make an annual payment of £2,000 to the bishop of sodor and man for distribution by him for the furtherance of education in schools in his diocese;(c) to make annual payments of £600 to the governors for the time being of pontefract church of england junior and infants school, pontefract, west yorkshire and not more than £3,000 to the governors for the time being of lady elizabeth hastings’ church of england school, at collingham, west yorkshire to be applied by them in one or both of the following ways:(i) towards discharging their obligations under the schools standards and framework act 1998 with respect to the maintenance of their school; (ii) in providing at their school such special benefits of any kind not normally provided by the local education authority as may from time to time be agreed between them and the trustee.(d) to make an annual payment of £3,000 to each of the charity schools for the provision of special benefits at those schools of any kind not normally provided by the local education authority as may from time to time be agreed between the trustee and the governors of the charity school concerned;(e) to make annual payments of the sums identified in column 1 of the table in part 2 of the schedule to this scheme to the vicars or rectors for time being of the ecclesiastical parishes identified in column 2 of the table for application in promoting the education (including instruction in the doctrines of the church of england) of persons who are resident in the respective ecclesiastical parishes. (a) to assist in defraying the costs of the following:(i) the repairing and beautifying of the following churches:(a) the church of all saints, ledsham;(b) the church of all saints, thorp arch;(c) the church of st. oswald, collingham;(d) the church of st. mary, howe;(e) the church of st. paul, shadwell;(f) the church of st wilfrid of ripon, monk fryston, in the county of north yorkshire;(ii) the repairing, improving or rebuilding of the hospital building belonging to the charity known as sir john lewis’s hospital; and(iii) the maintenance and improvement of the residences for the vicars of ledsham, thorp arch, and collingham and the rector of howe;(b) the relief in cases of need, hardship or distress of the following persons:(i) any clerks, or licensed lay workers and members of religious orders within the church of england (notwithstanding that such persons may also be directors of the trustee company), who are working in the area of the former counties of york, westmorland, cumberland or northumberland as constituted on the 31 march 1974 and their dependents; (ii) any retired or unemployed clerks and members of religious orders and their dependants and any retired licensed lay workers who have at any time worked in the area specified in sub clause (b)(i) above;(iii) any separated spouses or divorced spouses (so long in each case as they remain unmarried) or other dependents of clerks who have at any time been licensed to work in the area specified in sub-clause(b)(i) above and any widows, widowers, separated spouses or divorced spouses (so long in each case as they remain unmarried) or any other dependents of any such clerk who is deceased;(iv) any widows, widowers, separated spouses or divorced spouses (so long in each case as they remain unmarried) or other dependants of any clerks or deceased clerks whilst such widows, widowers, spouses or other dependants are resident in the area specified in sub clause (b)(i);(v) either generally or individually, persons resident in the ecclesiastical parishes of ledsham with fairburn, thorp arch and collingham with harewood by making grants of money or providing or paying for items, services or facilities calculated to reduce the need, hardship or distress of such persons.(c) to make an annual payment of £600 to be divided in such proportions as the trustee shall from time to time determine between the vicars for the time being of the ecclesiastical parishes of thorp arch, ledsham, collingham, thorner, mirfield, aberford and the rector of the ecclesiastical parish of howe, to be applied by them in each case in providing sacramental bread and wine in the parish churches of the ecclesiastical parishes;(d) to make an annual payment of £5,000 to the trustees of the time being of the charity known as sir john lewis’s hospital, at ledsham, to be applied by them for the maintenance of the hospital buildings and the benefit of the almspeople;(e) to make an annual payment of £1000 to the vicar of ledsham for his services as the chaplain of the hospital referred to in sub-clause (d) provided that his remaining stipend as vicar is not thereby reduced. to make payments in equal parts to:(1) lady elizabeth hastings' educational foundation for application in accordance with the objects of that charity; and(2) lady elizabeth hastings' non-educational charity for application in accordance with the objects of that charity.
