Objects:
1) to encourage the church to become aware of the social implications of the gospel, and thus foster a spirit of caring and service. 2) to develop relations between the church at diocesan and local level with:- a) other christian bodies b) the statutory social services c) other social work agencies, so as to promote effective co-operation in meeting the needs of individuals and the community as a whole. 3) to inform the church of the services available and of development in social work and legislation. 4) to identify areas of concern where independent action by the church as a voluntary agency might usefully be developed, and to be responsible for the initiation, direction and co-ordination of such activities where appropriate. 5) to review the present services for the unsupported mother and her child in the light of developments in the statutory services and changing social needs. 6) to provide a link between the diocese and the board for social responsibility of the church of england. 7) to create such a structure of deanery liaisons and, as necessary, of area or other committees as will enable the council and its officers to carry out these functions. 8) to recieve money, make payments and employ staff to assist in the discharge of its task.
