to apply the income in such manner as the trustees shall in their discretion think fit in or towards the provision of financial assistance to enable (a) children of deceased persons who shall have served as members of her majesty's forces or (b) children of seriously disabled war pensioners to improve their education and develop their intellects and characters in some manner which but for such assistance would be impracticable for them but so that a child shall be eligible for assistance under this deed only if the death or disablement of the child's parent shall have been caused by service in any of her majesty's forces during either of the two world wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 or in any other war or warlike operations in which the forces of the crown have been or may be at any time engaged or any service connected with or subsidiary to such war or warlike operations or by or as a consequence of enemy action in the course of any such war or warlike operations.
