the promotion of the christian religion and christian education in the diocese of norwich by the provision of a centre and facilities therein for and ancillary to the teaching and training of clergy and of all and any other persons associated with or interested in the work of the christian church and by the convening of conferences and meetings dedicated to the advancement of the christian religion and at the absolute and uncontrolled discretion of the trustees by the provision of financial assistance to any person or persons who without such assistance would be unable to enjoy the benefits of the said centre.
