for the promotion and encouragement of research work in the science of metallurgy of iron and/or steel and/or allied subjects with a view to promoting and securing the advance of the science of metallurgy or the application if iron and/or steel and the diffusion of scientific knowledge relating thereto. (see also copy of trust deed). the addistance, promotion and encouragement of study of a practical character bearing on the science of the manufacture or treatment of iron and/or steel. (see also copy of trust deed). a gold medal to be awarded to the inventor or introducer of any importnat or remarkable invention in connection with chemical or mechanical processes used in the manufacture of iron and/or steel. prize and medal to be awarded annually in recognition of distinguished achievement in production or engineering connected with the iron and steel and associated industries. to advance and develop all aspects of science, engineering and technology as applied to the discovery, exploration, development, characterisation, exploitation, processing application and re-cycling of materials, minerals and fuels; to further and co-ordinate education, training and practice in these disciplines and to facilitate the acquisition, preservation and dissemination of knowledge pertaining to these disciplines; to advance the educational, early career support and research activities of the institute of materials, minerals and mining. to advance and develop all aspects of science, engineering and technology as applied to the discovery, exploration, development, characterisation, exploitation, processing, application and recycling of materials, minerals and fuels, to further and co-ordinate education, training and practise in these disciplines and to facilitate the acquisition, preservation and dissemination of knowledge pertaining to these disciplines, provided that in pursuing these objects, in so far as they may be similar to those of existing organisations, the institute shall use its best endeavours to co-operate with them and to ensure that its activities are complementary to those of such organisations
