to promote research which will establish - (a) whether or not synthetic vitreous fibres (glass, stone, slag, wool) and products made therefrom can, by inhalation or ingestion have adverse biological effects in man - including pulmonary fibrosis, cancer of the lung or any other organ, or malignant mesothelioma of the pleura or peritoneum, and to disseminate and apply the results of that research for the benefit of the public, with a view to encouraging the promotion of improved methods of treating and preventing diseases, which are or may be caused by the inhalation or ingestion of such fibres or products as aforesaid.(b) whether any adverse or beneficial effects on building occupants' health, wellbeing and performance occur in buildings that are insulated with products made from or containing synthetic vitreous fibres (glass, stone, slag, wool) and to disseminate and apply the results of that research for the benefit of the public with a view to understanding and improving indoor climate and the health of building users and/or occupants. a special focus should be on very energy efficient buildings
