a) to advance the education of all the inhabitants of mersea island and the neighbourhood (¶the area of benefit÷) by maintaining a museum to hold a permanent collection of objects relating to the archaeology, history, heritage and wildlife of the area of benefit; to provide an opportunity for the inhabitants to conserve their heritage and to provide facilities for the public display of such objects whether or not drawn from the permanent collection.b) to promote the public benefit of the inhabitants of the area of benefit by associating with the local authorities, voluntary associations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide a valuable resource of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation in a charitable manner. the association shall have no connection with any political party or religious denomination. subject to this restriction, the association may affiliate or subscribe to any other body in order to further any of its above-mentioned objects.
