to relieve the mental, spiritual and physical distress of persons living in the london borough of southwark (hereinafter called the area of benefit) and, in exceptional cases, persons living outside the area of benefit, who are suffering bereavement or anticipating bereavement, by the provision of a counselling service. for these purposes bereavement shall mean the loss through death of a loved one, being a relative or friend. the association shall be non-party in politics and non-sectarian in religion. the association shall have the power to affiliate to other organisations with similar charitable interests.
