to promote the understanding of german language and culture amongst students who are british citizens and who are resident in the united kingdom and engaged in the united kingdom in courses of study of german language and culture and to promote the understanding of english language and culture amongst students who are west german nationals and who are resident in the federal republic of germany and engaged in the federal republic of germany in courses of study of english language and culture and the advancement of such other educational purposes as the trustees may deem necessary.
