a community centre for the use of a community association formed for the benefit of the inhabitants of swalecliff and chestfield and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, political, religious or other opinions by the advancement of education and the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. (a) to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the canterbury city council area and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions by associating the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. (b) to maintain and manage, in co-operation with the local statutory authority a community centre, for activities promoted and encouraged by the association and its constituent bodies.
