to provide gardens and other means of recreation and diversion in order to promote during leisure hours, the general and physical well-being of children attending council schools in the poorest parts of london where neither public nor private gardens are readily available with the result that their leisure hours out of doors are usually spent on the streets. to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interest of social welfare, with the purpose of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants of the metropolitan area of greater london. in furtherance of this object the charity directs its endeavours towards: (a) the protection, preservation, safeguarding, enhancing, acquiring, promoting, supporting and assisting in the improvement of public gardens, disused burial grounds, churchyards and open spaces within the said area; (b) the provision of seats and the planting of trees within places of public resort and the encouragement of public interest in the same; and (c) the protection and enhancement of biodiversity within the said area.
