apprenticing to some mechanical trade one child of any poor person resident in the parish of kensington. provided that, if and so far as, in the opinion of the trustees, the said income cannot in any one year be applied in apprenticing, the trustees may apply the same in any one or more of the following ways for the benefit of boys and girls who satisfy the ten year residential and financial requirements: (1) the award of scholarships, bursaries or maintenance allowances tenable at any place of learning approved by the trustees; (2) the provision of financial assistance, outfits, clothing, tools, instruments or books to enable boys or girls on leaving school, university or other educational establishment to prepare for, or to assist their entry into a profession, trade or calling; (3) the award of scholarships or maintenance allowances to enable boys or girls to travel abroad to pursue their education; (4) the provision of financial assistance to enable boys and girls to study music, sport or other arts; (5) otherwise promoting the education (including social and physical training) of boys and girls.
