Objects:

the governors shall pay a yearly sum of ·2,000 or such other sum as the charity commissioners may from time to time approve to the provost and chapter of the cathedral church of st. saviour's, southwark, for the benefit of the musical education of choristers whose parents or guardians are resident in the area of the ancient parishes of st. olave and st. saviour with a preference for such choristers who are in need of financial assistance and subject thereto for the benefit of the musical education of choristers and the maintenance of the choir. (1) the governors shall apply a yearly sum of ¯50,000 or such other sum as the commissioners may from time to time approve for the benefit of young persons who have not attained the age of 25 years being resident in the area of the former metropolitan boroughs of southwark and bermondsey, and who in the opinion of the governors are in need of financial assistance, in one or more of the ways mentioned in paragraphs (a) to (f) of sub-clause (1) of clause 24 of this scheme: provided that if in any year the said sum is not fully applied, the governors may apply the surplus in accordance with the provisions of this sub-clause in the following year or years. (1) the governors shall apply the residue of the said net income for the benefit of persons of either sex who have not attained the age of 25 years, who are about to attend, or are attending, or have for not less than two years attended one or other of the schools of the foundation, who, in the opinion of the governors, are in need of financial assistance in one or more of the following ways:- (a) the award of scholarships, bursaries or maintenance allowances tenable at any school, university, or other place of learning, approved by the governors; (b) the provision of financial assistance, outfits, clothing, tools, instruments or books to enable beneficiaries on leaving school, a university or any other educational establishment to prepare for, or to assist their entry into, a profession, trade or calling; (c) the award of scholarships or maintenance allowances to enable beneficiaries to travel abroad to pursue their education; (d) the provision or assistance towards the provision of facilities of any kind not normally provided by the local education authority for recreation and social and physical training including the provision of coaching in athletics, sports and games, for beneficiaries who are receiving primary, secondary or further education; (e) the provision of financial assistance to enable beneficiaries to study music or other arts; (f) in otherwise promoting the education (including social and physical training) of beneficiaries including the making of grants to other charitable institutions or organisations which promote the education of beneficiaries.
