(1) by the establishment and maintenance (in exeter and the seas and waterways adjacent thereto or elsewhere) of a museum or museums devoted to the preservation and exhibition to the public of examples of the world's past and present sailing and man propelled ships,boats,vessels and craft of working origin (including those used at sea and in fresh water) and the equipment used therein which the council of the association considers to be of exceptional interest; (2) by the promotion and encouragement of, and provision of facilities for, the study of such ships, boats, vessels, craft and equipment and the history of their evolution, development and use.
