the provision of financial assistance for: (i) the advancement of the education of students and in particular those who are members of the scheduled castes (being the castes scheduled under the constitution of the state of india) who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. (ii) the relief of poverty of members of the aforesaid scheduled castes (not being members of the association) who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
