apprenticing to some suitable trade poor boys born in the beneficial area of honest parents, who are perfect in their parts both of body and mind, are expert in reading and writing, understand the first four rules of arithmetic and shall readily repeat, without book, the lord's prayer, the creed, the ten commandments and the catechism of the church of england, and are educated in the religion and principles of that communion and are between the age of 14 and 18 years; and subject thereto in the assistance of poor boys who are under the age of 21 years and who are preparing for, entering upon, or engaged in, any trade, occupation or service, by outfits, payment of fees for instruction, payment of travelling expenses or such other means for their advancement in life to enable them to earn their own living.
