three scholarships to be competed for by boys and girls, native of the township of otley in the county of york, and pupils of prince henry's free grammar school of otley aforesaid and shall be awarded for merit only on the result of such examination of the trustees (governors of the aforesaid prince henry's grammar school, otley) think fit and shall be held for the term of three years at any university, university college, training college or other institution of higher professional or technical instruction. (1) the governors may apply such yearly sum as they think fit in providing prizes and such special benefits, or any kind not normally provided by the local education authority, for prince henry's grammar school as may from time to time be agreed upon between the authority and the governors.(2) the governors shall apply the residue of the said net income for the benefit of persons of either sex who have not attained the age of 25 years, who are about to attend, or are attending, or have for not less than two years attended, prince henry's grammar school, and who, in the opinion of the governors, are in need of financial assistance with a preference for such of those as are resident in the ancient parish of otley.
