"upon trust at their absolute discretion to pay or apply the same or any part or parts as capital or as income for the relief of persons within the area of benefit who may be or are suffering from cancer or other illnesses and injuries by providing a piece of equipment of a type used in the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer or other illnesses and injuries and known as a computerised axial tomography scanner (hereinafter called ""the scanner equipment"") provided that if that purpose shall have been fulfilled or it shall become impracticable to fulfil it the trustees acting on the advice of the committee hereinafter mentioned may pay or apply the income and capital of the fund for the purchase of such equipment as is recommended by the committee for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer or other illnesses and injuries in the area of benefit."
