"the advancement of the education of the public in astronomy, in particular by 1. providing a triennial lecture on an astronomical subject at the university of exeter to be known as ""the sir norman lockyer lecture"". 2. awarding as the trustees think fit fellowships to be known as ""sir norman lockyer fellowships"" to enable each fellow to study and research an astronomical subject such subject to be agreed with the trustees and the results of such study and research to be published or to be made available to the trustees for publication. 3. as the trustees think fit promoting or supporting conferences at national or international level for consideration of significant advances in the science of astronomy. 4. and the general advancement and promotion for the public benefit of astronomical knowledge and education."
